I own English bulldog for only 6 months and I already had every possible problem with it. Do not get me wrong. It is a great dog and we really have a lot of fun with it, but it really has many health problems.
Something we have to deal with almost every month is diarrhoea. This is actually something every bulldog-owner has to deal with. What I have learned is that it is very important to include rice in bulldog’s nutrition. You can prevent many digestion problems that way. If your dog already has diarrhoea put it on a rice diet. Couple of days and it will be fine. You do not always have to visit a vet.
To prevent different infections it is important to clean your bulldog’s wrinkles regularly. It is also good to keep them dry all the time. Especially its nose wrinkle and tail pocket. When your dog drinks water, dry its skin on the chin. It is not necessary to bath bulldog often. Actually, it is better if you do not.
Another thing you should be careful about is English bulldog’s hip problems. Most of them eventually face that problem. So, it is very important that you do not allow your bulldog to walk on the stairs or on a rising ground. Be careful about that especially until your bulldog is one year old.
Unfortunately there are no preventive measures for eye problems. Keeping them clean can help a lot. If your dog has eye problems you will have to take it to vet. Vets have different methods to save that problem.
These are only few problems you may have with bulldogs. Sure, all dogs can have health problems, but bulldogs are even more sensitive about them. However, many of them can be prevented or cured properly. It is important that you know your dog very well and notice any possible change in its behavior and appearance. You have to be very attentive and react as soon as you notice a problem.
